Last summer, I was lucky enough to attend a weekend art class taught by a glass artist whose work I have admired for quite some time. The technique I learned involves hand painting enamels on many layers of glass. Depth is achieved by the number of sheets of glass that are used, as well as diminishing size and color in the design. The end result can be a glass panel 1/2 – 1 inch thick, depending on how much glass is used.
I’ve dallied with many designs, but I keep going back to Aspens and Birch trees. There must be some deep symbolic meaning to this, but I haven’t figured that out, yet! Maybe a yearning for my home state of Utah, where Aspens are abundant and are my favorite of all trees.
In my next post I will be showing a human figure glass panel I am working on, using this same technique.
Feel free to leave a comment and let me know what you think of this glass panel titled “Autumn Aspens”. It is available in my website store.
